The product Ovatox is a 12.5% Amitraz Solution.
Amitraz is an active substance that helps eliminate a range of external parasites in chickens, sheep, bees, etc. Due to its more affordable price and highly effective anti-Varroa effect, many beekeepers have successfully replaced Varachet with such amitraz solutions, such as Taktic, Scabatox, Mitak, or Kenaz.
Beekeepers apply this product in three ways:
1. Dripping it onto special paper strips that smolder and release toxic smoke (the same principle used with Varachet).
2. Mixing it with paraffin oil or lamp oil, then spraying the resulting solution as toxic smoke inside the hives using Furetto or Fogger devices.
3. Mixing it with sunflower oil and impregnating it onto cellulose strips or wooden strips.
The purpose of using amitraz solutions in beekeeping is to remove the parasite Varroa jacobsoni or Varroa destructor.
